DRESS USE #51: SUMO MAWASHI

A wedding dress mawashi actually feels pretty good. I wish I could have found a full-size sumo wrestler to pose for the photographs, but there aren’t that many just hanging around Tucson. And after I took it off, I felt really itchy. Maybe I should have washed it after all.

I GREW UP WITH FOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS. I did mention that my family is Catholic, didn’t I? There are families that are Catholic and then there are families that are Catholic . As I said, my father was a priest before he met my mom, and after leaving the church he went back to school to get his degree and find a new career. Apparently a PhD in Canon Law doesn’t necessarily convey employability. He worked his way up the Diocese of Tucson to eventually become the CEO of Catholic Community Services. He was an advocate for the poor and made sure that his love and consideration of others were reflected in his everyday actions. Despite a modest income, my parents both sacrificed to make sure that we never wanted for anything, even making sure we all had a Catholic education. That’s a Catholic family. Once again, you can understand why divorce isn’t something I really aspired to.
